Toyota Vios Turbo vs Lotus Eletre R

Currently the 3rd car to my EV collection on top of the BMW iX and Tesla Model 3, and currently the only car the Vios Turbo isn't able to outrun even on the straight is this Lotus Eletre R.

With over 900+ of sheer horsepower and close to 1000 Nm of torque, even with almost 2 bar of boost I wasn't able to keep up.

Guess the EV revolution is real.

Toyota Vios Turbo Rear Dash Cam

The head unit on the car died on me lately, so I had an Android head unit fitted and it pleasantly came with a front and rear dash cam.

I was told by friends a couple of time when they were behind me the car spits flame whenever I shift but I was never able to see it with my own eyes until today.

When I was coming out of the toll plaza, decided to open up the car a little bit and the dash cam was able to record it.

And I should say I am quite pleased by it.

Toyota Vios Turbo vs AMG CLA45 S


I placed an order for an AMG CLA45 S back in July 2019, because of the customized color and no thanks to the covid-19 pandemic the car could only reach me just couple of days before New Year.

And it is not the New Year of 2020 but 2021 so it literally took them close to 18 freaking months to get the car to me.

Of course the title is a bit misleading here, I am not able to test the AMG against the Vios Turbo as of now as the car requires a run in period of 1,500 km before I can start trashing it.

However, I was able to test drive the AMG demo car at the Mercedes showroom during the day I collected the car.

Based on initial feeling, I think the AMG might not be able to shake the Vios Turbo off its tail on the straight in stock form, say for example a test of rolling start from 100 km/h to 200 km/h.

Of course this is totally just based on my own gut feel.

Don't get me wrong, the AMG is a nice all rounded car to drive with a lot of fancy features.

And of course, the Vios Turbo is only a car that could only go fast on the straight and that is about it. 

Not trying to incite any hatred amongst other AMG owners here.

So it is going to be a period of grandma driving for now and for God knows how long before I can run in the car as I am mostly working from home nowadays.

Couple weeks back decided to send in the car for some detailing job and the owner of the shop took some photos and even made a video without me knowing.

Later he texted me asking for permission to share it to promote his business and I thought that he did such a fantastic job in detailing the car so I agreed as I am happy to help out a fellow entrepreneur especially in such difficult times due to the covid-19 pandemic.

AiM MXL Dash

So I've been gear shifting entirely based on the RPM reading off the original factory dash which isn't the best way, and I consider myself lucky so far as I yet to blow the engine for maxing the RPM limit.

Been wanting to get my dash fitted but never really had the time, and the car has been running without a dash display since the day it rolled out from the garage.

Had the dash with me for so long until it is now no longer in production by the manufacturer. Ah well, better late than never.

The car is now fitted with an AiM MXL Dash instead of the Haltech IQ3 Street Dash that we originally wanted to go with.

It has a very nice backlight which makes it comfortable to the eye while driving and I like it very much and with the RPM shift light it made my life so much easier whenever I am driving as I can just focus looking at the front instead of the dashboard on the left.

It also has water resistant rating of IP65 not that it matters as it is installed inside the car.

At the same time we ditched the old Innovate Motorsports Wideband and replaced with a Dynojet Wideband 2 kit instead as the sensor died on me prematurely.

Alexander Busuttil's Monster

I would like to thank Alexander Busuttil for sharing info and pictures of his monster, and I am really happy to get to know another fella from the other side of the world who shares the same passion about modding the 1NZ-FE engine.

Alexander had so much goodies inside his car and the info below doesn't do him enough justice. He is running a custom water injection kit that is spraying pre and post turbo, and I think it is working well for him.

I hope he will be able to share with us some videos of his cars soon!

Trapo Car Mat

Came across Trapo Car Mat Malaysia recently on Facebook, hence I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

Through Facebook Messenger, they were responsive and after paying them the full price of RM 199.90 through online banking, I received the car mat a couple days later.

Trapo claims the mats are waterproof, anti-slip, recyclable, traps mud and dirt easily and it also comes with a 1 year warranty. They are also smell free, which so far seems to be the case.

No complains so far.

Wordless Monday

Got rid of the old phone and replaced it with a Samsung Note 7, so I decided to give the camera a try on the car this morning as I arrived at the office quite early.


Despite the worldwide recall, it is only 0.1% of the phones that were shipped are affected. Hardly an issue for me really, it is still an amazing phone.


Forged Racing Radiator, Mishimoto Racing Thermostat, TRD Radiator Cap

The car has been running on the standard radiator and thermostat since day 1, and it is amazing that it actually lasted until today without any heat problems.

Only as of recent, we noticed there were some bubbling and we decided that it is time to upgrade the cooling system of the car once and for all.

Forged Racing aluminium radiator, Mishimoto racing low temperature 68 degree thermostat and a TRD 1.3 bar radiator cap sums it all.

Both the radiator and thermostat comes with lifetime manufacturer warranty, no complaints there and the engine is purring like a kitten now.


Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08R

Traction has always been an issue with the car, coupled with the fact that the current set of tires are few years old, wheel spin can be easily achieved by just going slightly heavy on the throttle.

As a matter of fact, I had to reduce the boost in order to achieve a more pleasant driving experience.

But as of today, everything changed.

Because I wasn't able to lay my hands on the Toyo R888s hence I decided to give Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08R a try.

And my oh my, these babies have so much grip in them I'm actually getting the feeling that the car is now under powered and thinking of sending the car back to Toby to restore the boost.




Hello

I know I've been missing in action for quite a while, and it is mostly due to commitment to work and the extensive travelling required.

My inbox has been flooded with inquiries about the cars and parts etc, and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to reply in time.

The car is very much alive and kicking, spitting out flames at the exhaust on 3rd gear when I pedal it on the highway.


The boost setting of 1.6 bar has proven more than adequate for daily driving for now, and while I have no complaints on the power delivery but now I am starting to get used to it.

So this means either I have to learn to be contented with what I have, or plan for more upgrades.

World's First 500 WHP 1NZFE

Yesterday was a historical day for myself and GT Auto, after running in the engine I had the car sent back for a retune.

With a little help from avgas and a race map, we made 501 wheel horsepower.

And for my daily drive map, we managed to squeeze 454 wheel horsepower.

I am still pretty much out of words to describe how I feel right now.

So for now I'll just let the video and the dyno chart do the talking.

This is just the beginning.


Blue: 1.7 bar boost, pump gas, water/meth injection
Red: 2.2 bar boost, pump gas + avgas, no water/meth

Stage 2 Turbo - Base Tune

We got the engine fired up nicely, so we strapped it on the dyno to run it in and also to give it a base tune.

Currently the rev limit is set to 8,000 RPM at the moment.

With just pump gas, no water/methanol injection, no nitrous we made 404 wheel horsepower with 1.6 bar of boost on a very conservative tune.

So if we do a reverse calculation of a 15% power loss on transmission, the engine should be making around 475 horsepower at the crank.

The engine needs to run in a little more before we tune it again with a more aggressive map and with water/methanol injection.

Stage 1 Turbo vs Stage 2 Turbo

By comparing chart with the Stage 1 Turbo kit, we could see that there isn't any difference in the power delivery at the low end so we don't really experience any turbo lag at all.

Now that there isn't any issue with lag, we might consider removing the nitrous kit.

The car is now back to GT Auto for more work to be done, however this should be the final work and we will be firing up the engine.

It also was nice to see Andrew from The N16 Files as he dropped by today to deliver more parts for his monster project.

Another mad fella in a quest to make over 400+ whp on his N16 Nissan Sentra :P
